A tension pneumothorax that doesn't respond to needle decompression needs a different answer. The NAR Simple Thoracostomy Kit gives qualified providers everything required to perform a simple finger thoracostomy without hunting through a bag or improvising components under pressure.
Everything is vacuum-sealed in a single compact package. Open it, have what you need, do the procedure. The kit includes a #10 protected safety scalpel, a curved Rochester Pean hemostat for penetrating the parietal pleura and dissecting intercostal muscle, sterile gauze, a 3-pack of Chloraprep swabsticks for skin prep, a HyFin Compact Vented Twin Pack Chest Seal to cover the site post-procedure in spontaneously breathing patients, and a permanent marker to annotate the seal.
The 3-pack skin prep is there for a reason - bilateral procedures happen, and this kit is built for that contingency.
