ABOUT SLATE SOLUTIONS
Slate Solutions was founded in 2015 by Mike Slate with a straightforward premise: build focused, agile, mission-driven armor for the people who depend on it most. The name was chosen deliberately - slate is strong, foundational, and durable. Solutions because the mission is not to sell gear, it is to solve real-world protection problems for the people wearing it every day.
Based in Florida with over 50 years of combined design and manufacturing experience, Slate holds ISO 9001:2015 and BA 9000:2016 certification and produces NIJ-certified armor systems for law enforcement, corrections, EMS, federal agencies, and the U.S. military. Their product line covers the full spectrum - concealable vests, plate carriers, hard plates, ballistic helmets, shields, and K9 systems.
Their signature G-Fold ballistic shield is a case study in the kind of innovation Slate builds toward. A patent-pending folding design that collapses into a carry bag and deploys in seconds, providing full frontal coverage with a built-in viewport. Lightweight, mobile, and built for rapid-response situations where speed and protection are both non-negotiable.
One of Slate's most meaningful traditions is the saves bell. Every time a Slate product is confirmed to have saved a life in the field, production stops and someone rings the bell at the center of the factory floor. For Mike Slate, that sound never gets old. It is a reminder of exactly what they are building and who they are building it for.
WHY WE CHOSE SLATE SOLUTIONS
PTS does not carry products we would not deploy ourselves. When we evaluated armor vendors, we were not looking for the largest catalog or the lowest price point. We were looking for a manufacturer who treats protection as a mission.
Slate Solutions met that standard on every count.
They are a small, focused team - and that is a feature, not a limitation. In the armor industry, small manufacturers compete on quality and customer relationships because they cannot compete on volume. Slate's team knows their products at the component level. They take direct feedback from the people wearing their gear and build it back into the next design. That feedback loop does not exist at large manufacturers running high-volume production lines.
Their approach to growth tells you everything about their priorities. As demand increased, Slate scaled deliberately - tightening processes, investing in training and technology, and expanding capacity without cutting corners on materials or testing. In an industry where there is no margin for error, that kind of discipline matters.
The saves bell tradition is not a marketing story. It is a cultural signal. A company that stops the production floor every time a life is saved is a company that has not lost sight of what the product actually does. When we learned about that bell, it was not lost on us - the Liberty Bell in the PTS crest represents equal access to life-saving preparedness for every person we serve. Two companies, two bells, the same mission.
