Multiple Insertion Training System

The MITS™ is a compact, all-in-one training platform designed to practice multiple needle-based procedures in a single device, including dry stick and wet stick IV access, as well as needle decompression. It’s built to be used anywhere, anytime, without needing a full classroom setup.

Most traditional needle insertion trainers were built with the classroom in mind, not mobility. They often replicate specific body parts like an arm, leg, or chest and prioritize anatomical detail over practicality. While effective, they tend to be expensive, bulky, and dependent on extra equipment like pumps, monitors, tubing, and wiring.

Because of that, they’re not truly self-contained. You’re managing multiple components, separate storage, and sharps handling, which makes transport and setup more complicated than it needs to be. They also aren’t built for repeated field use, which limits how often and where training can realistically happen.

The MITS takes a different approach. Instead of assuming training only happens in a controlled environment, it’s designed for flexibility. Whether you’re in a classroom, on-site, or running training in the field, it gives you a portable, durable option that supports consistent, hands-on skill development without the logistical burden of traditional systems.

The Story

Mochtech’s story begins with Robb Mourton, a U.S. Army medic and trainer who served for nearly three decades. While preparing Soldiers for deployment in the early 2000s, he identified a critical gap in available training tools. At the time, there were limited options for realistically teaching procedures such as IV access and needle decompression.

Rather than accept those limitations, Robb began developing his own solutions. He hand-built early IV task trainers designed to better prepare Soldiers for real-world conditions. These initial efforts laid the foundation for what would later become the Multi Insertion Training System, or MITS.

The next phase of development came when his son, Wesley Mourton, joined the effort. With a background in entrepreneurship and a shared commitment to improving training, Wesley helped transition those early concepts into a refined and scalable platform. Together, they expanded the system into a versatile training solution capable of supporting a wide range of medical skills.

Today, the MITS is recognized as a compact and portable training platform that supports more than twenty critical procedures, including IV access, needle decompression, emergency cricothyrotomy, and other lifesaving interventions. Its design allows for use in both structured classroom settings and austere or field environments.

Mochtech remains focused on the same mission that defined its origins: preparing those who save lives through realistic, durable, and accessible training tools. Their work reflects a broader trend in both military and civilian medicine, where experience-driven innovation continues to shape how providers are trained.

Why We Chose MOCHTECH

When you run mobile training, gear becomes your biggest problem fast. You either bring a ton of equipment or you start cutting corners on hands-on reps. Neither is a great option.

That’s where Mochtech and the MITS made sense for us.

The MITS lets us travel light without sacrificing realism. Instead of hauling multiple bulky trainers, we can cover a wide range of skills on one platform. That keeps our setup efficient, our footprint small, and most importantly, keeps costs down for the client while still delivering real hands-on training.

We’ve also put it through the test. We’re still running our original MITS unit after several years, dozens of classes, and hundreds of students. It holds up. No babying it, no special treatment. It just works.

One of the small details we really appreciate is the skin. It almost “self-heals” after repeated needle insertions, so you’re not dealing with blown-out training aids or obvious track marks that tip off the next student. Every rep still feels clean and realistic.

At the end of the day, it fits how we train. Practical, durable, and built for real-world use, not just the classroom. When you run mobile training, gear becomes your biggest problem fast. You either bring a ton of equipment or you start cutting corners on hands-on reps. Neither is a great option.
