16 Hours
Classroom / Skills Lab
Penn Tactical Solutions
Tactical Emergency Care

Built for paramedics and EMTs assigned to SWAT, ESU, MIRT, or tactical response teams, this 16-hour course bridges clinical medicine with the legal and operational realities of the special operations environment. Topics include tactical medic legal considerations, K9 TCCC, pharmacology for the field, and medicine across the barricade. Not a replacement for TECC or TCCC -- a focused refresher for providers already working in that role.

This course is built for paramedics and EMTs who are assigned to or work alongside a law enforcement special operations team -- SWAT, ESU, MIRT, TRT, or similar units. It is not designed as a comprehensive tactical medical certification. It is a focused 16-hour refresher for experienced providers who are already operating in that role and need to update their knowledge and skills.

The course bridges clinical medicine with the legal, operational, and environmental realities of special operations work. Providers leave with a clearer understanding of their scope, their liability, and their role across the full range of situations they will encounter.

Topics covered include:
- Legal considerations for the tactical medic: search and seizure, medical vs. legal role, expanded scope, subject-in-custody care
- TECC guideline review and updates
- TCCC skill assessments: surgical airways, wound packing, tourniquet application
- Pharmacology for the field: prescription and OTC medications common in special operations
- Medical threat assessment and pre-mission planning
- K9 TCCC overview: Prehospital Veterinary Care Act, K9 medicine, skill stations
- Sick call medicine: dehydration, heat and cold injuries, general illness, sanitation
- Sports medicine and orthopedic injuries
- Remote assessment and medicine across the barricade
- Civil disturbance and mobile field force medical considerations
- Less lethal munitions and chemical deterrents

This course is appropriate for paramedics and EMTs currently assigned to or preparing for a special operations medical role. Prior TECC or TCCC training is required.
